The skin is the largest single organ in the human body. Like every other organ, it is susceptible to the passing of time and the rigors of daily life. Sun damage, wrinkles, blemishes, and scars on the face and neck all make a person look older-no matter how vital you feel. And with people living longer and enjoying more active lifestyles, your skin comes under a heavier assault than ever.

Skincare

Exposure to the sun may be the single greatest cause of aging skin. Other factor such as smoking, alcohol, and genetics also contribute to aging skin. Further, collagen and elastin, the tissues that keep the skin firm, generally become weaker with age.

For many years, wearing the hallmarks of aging was considered inevitable. Now, recent clinical advances in skin rejuvenation are challenging that notion. These advances are more affordable and effective than ever. Banishing wrinkles, lines, and sun-damaged skin allows people to restore a fresh, younger-looking appearance without surgery or weeks of recovery. About the Procedure

MedCOSMETIC™ is fortunate to offer a variety of products, each designed to meet the special needs of our patients. Some of these products help exfoliate dead skin, create better and more healthy new skin cells, and reduce wrinkles. Some are designed to correct damaged skin by reducing age (sun) spots. And some of our products will help prevent the ravages of the sun and our environment so that the skin does not get damaged in the future.

FAQ
What is the best way to protect my skin from the effects of the sun?

While scientists have long known that sun exposure can have harmful effects, new research shows that UVA rays are responsible for premature signs of aging, while UVB rays are responsible for burning. Surprisingly, most sunscreens do not protect skin from UVA rays. To protect yourself from further deterioration, it is essential to wear sunscreen that has UVA and UVB protection. The Obagi line of product that we sell provides true broad spectrum protection. Utilizing a clear zinc oxide formula, you can now get the protection you need and without a pasty white cream.

What are retinoids such as Retin-A?

Since the introduction of tretinoin in the early seventies, topical retinoids such as Retin have played a central role in the treatment if acne. More recently, doctors have also found these products to be highly effective in the treatment of aging skin. First popularized by Dr. Albert Kligman in 1986, our patients who use topical retinoids notice a reduction in fine lines (especially around the eyes and mouth), improved skin color, and the development of a "glow" to the face.

Specifically, retinoids are a vitamin A structure and its derivatives. These substances are vital to the normal functioning of the skin. We offer Retin though our on-line store and in our facilities and it is often used in conjunction with some of our other products.

What is a bleaching cream?

You are probably referring to hydroquinone. This product is used to inhibit the formation of melanin, a natural pigment found in the body and on the skin. It is melanin that is responsible for age spots and other pigmentary conditions of the skin. We often use hydroquinone either alone, in combination with Retin, or in our Obagi line of products that you can purchase on line. It is best that you have a free consultation with a member of the MedCOSMETIC™ staff before starting on this product in order to get the best results.

What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead or diseased skin from the body. There are many methods such as scrubbing, microdermabrasion and lasers. Exfoliation, when combined with the proper skin care products and cosmetic treatments, can enhance the desired effects and speed up the process of wrinkle and age spot reduction. Both our MD Forte products and our Obagi products have the ingredients necessary to achieve exfoliation.
